Ida Wendt

Fellow and Lecturer at Maastricht University


Dr Ida Wendt is a Lecturer of European Law in the Department of International and European Law at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Her research interests are focused in the area of European Economic Law, in particular the regulation of markets and the integration of a workable public interest concept. She is also interested in democratic legitimacy in collective rule-making processes and democratic ownership in academic education. Ida has taught and conducted research at Maastricht University, Erasmus Law School in Rotterdam and Leiden Law School, the Netherlands. She also served as a Legal Secretary for the advisory committee on appeals to the Dutch Competition Authority from 2007 to 2012 and gained working experience within the European Commission in 2003. Ida obtained a PhD in European Competition Law from Maastricht University in 2009, an LL.M. in Comparative and European Law from Maastricht University and the University of Nottingham in 1999, German first state examination in law from Heidelberg University, Germany, in 1998. Ida is fully qualified to practice law in Germany since 2002. She speaks fluent German, Dutch, English and French and has knowledge of Spanish and Italian. At the China-EU School of Law, she co-teaches the “Competition Law” course.
