Julia Solla

Professor of Legal History at the Autonomous University of Madrid


Prof. Julia Solla is a Professor of Legal History in the Department of Private, Social and Economic Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). Since 2005, she has been teaching at UAM as an Assistant Professor, becoming an Associate Professor in 2011. After earning a European Master’s Degree in “History and comparison of the politic and juridical institutions of the Mediterranean Europe’s countries” from the Universities of Messina, Córdoba and UAM, Julia received her PhD summa cum laude in 2010 with a thesis on judicial responsibility in Spain during the 19thcentury. Julia has conducted research in institutions such as the “École des hautes études en sciences sociales”, or School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, in Paris, The Robbins Collection at the University of California, Berkeley, the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt am Main and the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago. Her research interests include the history of justice, history of constitutionalism, history of public administration, historical legal systems,and Spanish colonialism.
