Sports Venues outside the Campus
(1)Kangshan
Square: At the nearest entertainment square to CUPL, there are many weightlifting
facilities for children and adults.
(2)Comprehensive Stadium of Changping: Located to the west of Nanhuan Rd. in Changping; there are various facilities for
basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, billiards and snooker, handball,
swimming, gymnastics, dance, wrestling, Judo, and Tae Kwon Do. It is a modern
and comprehensive large-scale stadium for sports, weightlifting, leisure and
special training.
(3) Private
fitness clubs: There are many fitness clubs in Changping. Usually there is no
set schedule for gymnastic exercises, yoga, exercise bikes, and weightlifting
equipment; these are also typically much cheaper than those in the downtown
area. Currently there are Mahua Fitness, Power
Fitness, and Haosha Fitness Center near to CUPL. At
present, Haosha Fitness Center is the largest.
(4) Hiking and
mountain climbing: Many people envy the students of CUPL, because they are
right at the foot of Mount Jundu, only a short walk
away (20 minutes). CUPL is also within 30-minutes by car from many near-by
scenic spots. So, if you are feeling tired and want to relax, you can pick up
your bag, ride a bike, or go for a hike, which can refresh you immediately.
Climbing Routes:
1: Eastwards
from the North Gate of CUPL, pass through the shooting field, climb over the
back mountain, and finally arrive at Shisanling
Reservoir. It won’t take you long, and the mountain is not high, making
this an ideal route for short-distance hiking. No ticket needed.
2: Scenic areas
suitable for mountain hiking: The Mangshan National
Forest Park (Take bus No. 925 branch line to get off at the terminal station,
or take bus No.919-1, get off at Mount Feng station
and then you can walk here. Or, get off at the terminal station East Gate of Changping, transfer to bus No. 643, 845, or 6, and get off
at the terminal station; walk across the dam, and you can arrive there.) Zhuijiuyu Scenic Area (get on the
No. 5 bus at the South Street station and get off at Zhuijiuyu.)
Gou Cliff Scenic Area (no public transportation; you can take a taxi from
outside the South Gate, which will cost you about 30 yuan.)
Friendly Reminder: It is best to go climbing with your friends and to
know the routes and times needed in advance. On the way, please do not pick
fruit from the orchards and watch out for the dogs kept by the farmers.
(5) Cycling: Changping is the main venue for the triathlon and road cycling
events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Students who love riding can take a ride
along the competition route of the Olympics if they wish to challenge
themselves.
Friendly Reminder: Parts of the bike path in Changping are not isolated
from the public roads. Please keep an eye on the passing traffic and wear a
helmet. The roads between Reservoir Rd. and the mountains are a little narrow,
and the speed of the passing vehicles is relatively high. You are advised to
ride along the paved roads, and not to ride on the paths among the mountains or
on the undeveloped roads.
