The library of CUPL is the earliest established university library focused on collecting legal and political materials in the P.R.C. It ranks among the top in the country in terms of both total volumes of literature in law and speed of upgrading. It has collected almost all academic literature in law published in mainland China since the 1980s. Its collection of law publications since the end of the Qing Dynasty is relatively complete, including codes, statutes, and collections of cases - an outstanding feature of the library.
It consists of three sites across the two campuses: the branch of the Xueyuan Road campus, and the Fa Yuange and Wen Yuange branches of the Changping campus.
The total number of volumes continues to grow, having already passed 1.8 million, of which 1.55 million are print volumes (last counted in August 2007). In addition to these print volumes, the library is also building an extensive digital collection to meet the requirements of teaching. Currently, it has 38 distinct CD and network databases, over 250,000 E-books, another 19,000 self-compiled electronic magazines in foreign languages, and over 7,000 electronic Chinese magazines. Bibliography search (in English and in Chinese).
The library ranks first in China in the variety of its foreign language database. It also tops other university libraries in the number of legal volumes published in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Recently, it has constructed a full-fledged online information resource service system composed of a network database, a local database and a self-built database, and it has realized the automation of information management and service. You can easily access databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis and so on.
The reading room of CESL located on the first floor of the Law Library of CUPL in Changping was officially opened on October 28, 2009.
